Sofia Sabra

Sofia Sabra is a Research Associate at LOSH, working on projects on worker safety and health, employment, and California policy. Sofia holds a Public Health Master’s degree in Community Health Sciences, specializing in Health Education and Health Promotion from UCLA. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and Society and a minor in Anthropology from UCLA.

Before joining LOSH, Sofia worked as a researcher in the UCLA Heat Lab investigating thermal inequality through an interdisciplinary lens. There, she focused primarily on occupational health projects like the study of Cal/OSHA outdoor heat violations and the impacts of heat on LA food truck workers. Sofia participated in the 2025 Occupational Health Internship Program, working with LOSH and Black Women for Wellness to understand how exposure to toxic chemicals affects Black hair stylists.

Sofia advocates for improved safety for all workers. She values working in community-based research projects to understand how the social determinants of health impact underserved groups. Sofia is also interested in how environmental conditions, like extreme heat and air quality, impact the health of individuals.

Outside the office, Sofia enjoys watching hockey, going to concerts, reading, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.
