Maria Rivera
Maria Rivera is a Program Coordinator at LOSH. She primarily oversees training and program development efforts for the Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Education Program (WOSHTEP), a statewide initiative administered by the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers Compensation. She holds a Master of Public Health degree in Environmental Health Sciences from UCLA and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Science and Math Education from UC Santa Barbara.
Before joining LOSH, she participated in the Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) with Fight for $15 LA, now known as the California Fast Food Workers Union, where she conducted interviews with fast-food workers to document environmental and workplace hazards. She later continued collaborating with them to support workers in filing health and safety complaints.
Maria is passionate about empowering workers with the knowledge and tools to improve working conditions. She is particularly interested in addressing climate-related risks to workers, including extreme heat, wildfire smoke, and other environmental exposures.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys watercolor painting, running, and spending time with her two cats, Nala and Belinda.
